My name is Ally Livingston and I am seventeen years old. I play for Ridgefield High School (CT) varsity and the CT Stars 17’s club team. I am 5’9” and the starting setter for both.
I started playing volleyball my freshman year and immediately fell in love with the sport. I have played tennis, soccer, and softball at various levels, but I have never loved a sport like I do volleyball. My sophomore year I was double-rostered on varsity as a serving specialist/backup setter and junior varsity as the starting setter. This past season, I was the starting varsity setter and led my team to the State Quarterfinals of Class LL and was voted All-FCIAC Honorable Mention. I like to lead and set an example by being the hardest worker and best teammate I can be on and off the court. I was Captain of both the Freshman and JV teams and will be Varsity captain this upcoming season.
When I step on the court, whether it be a practice or a match, I always give 110% on every play. I am committed to improving my skills including using peripheral vision to read opposing team blocking schemes, running a quick offense, and communication on the court. I feel that one of the most important parts of volleyball is communication with my teammates, and I am known to be very vocal on the court. I value my relationship with my teammates and their camaraderie is very important to me. On the court, it’s my responsibility to effectively manage the game and motivate my team especially when we are challenged. Through volleyball, I have learned to persevere, practice hard, and work effectively with teammates and coaches.
I consider myself very coachable and am always eager for critique with the goal of be getting better each day.
My hard work on the court parallels my hard work in school. I take my academics very seriously and have a 4.42 unweighted GPA out of 4.5. In my sophomore year, I took one AP and in my junior year I am currently taking 4 AP classes. I have made high honor roll in every year of high school and taken all honors or AP classes. I love to learn and value my education very highly.
I am looking for an academically strong college and interested in schools that are small to medium in size. Geographically, I would like to study in the northeast, the midwest, or parts of south.
I am a passionate and driven person, and I cannot think of a better way to spend my college experience than continuing to learn and play the sport I love in an environment that is right for me.
