Hi, my name is Alisa Zeltina, I am now a Junior from Trumbull High School. This year I made the Varsity team. It was a tough season because of how many seniors graduated the previous year. We had about 4 Seniors on the court plus an additional two seniors who weren't able to play due to injuries. So most of our team were new to the varsity court and playing level. It was like tryouts every single day at practice to show our coach who belongs on the court during games. In the beginning, each game was almost a different line up. Some times I would play the whole game while others I didn't even step foot on the court. When I didn't step foot on the court I didn't let it discourage me, I made it a goal to just work hard and still cheer for my teammates who were on the court because we were all one team with one goal. Our team qualified for states, class LL and FCIACS. For FCIACS we made it until the semi finals, we put up a good fight. Then for our states tournament, we ended up losing our second game in. Of course I am upset that we didn't get farther, but I am going to use it as motivation for myself to get that much better so then we do make it to the top without a question. Last year, my sophomore year I made Junior Varsity. As a sophomore, I played outside hitter and I also served when it was my rotation. Our season was pretty successful, our ratio was about 9-0. We had an undefeated season. As a freshman, I was a starting outside hitter for the Trumbull High Freshman volleyball team. Our 2019 team had an undefeated season. My interest in volleyball peaked in 6th grade when I started attending volleyball clinics. In 8th grade I was lucky enough to be offered a position on the U14 Nova regional volleyball team. After the season my coaches thought I would be best fit for the U15 Nova CT National volleyball team. As a team we have won 1st place in the silver bracket at the tournament AAU Winter Classic in Hanover MA, we also won 1st place in the silver bracket in Winterfest in Boston MA, our team also won all of the games on the first day of the tournament which was named AAU Champions League in Windsor CT, but due to Covid-19 the second day was cancelled. When I was on the U14 Regional team we had multiple games but they didn't have names, we won 1st place to 4 of them. Unfortunately our season this year was cut short due to Covid-19, but we are fortunate enough to be raping up our season last summer. The past summers I have attended to multiple Nike volleyball camps.
As a player even though I mainly play outside Hitter, I have the ability to also play Right-side Hitter. I would like to saw that I am constant with my serves, I always support my team on and off the court. I am always looking to improve my skills, so I take it upon myself to ask my coaches what I could work on. Volleyball has been an outlet for me, and I hope I can continue through high school and potentially through college as well.
My overall goal is to take volleyball to the college level. I am open to any colleges on the east coast of the United States, possibly farther. I used to have a set goal to become a veterinarian and help animals and have my own shelter. As of right now, I am not so sure anymore if that is my calling, or my passion anymore. I still love animals and I want nothing but the best for any animal out there, but I think I would enjoy doing something else. It is extremely out of my comfort zone to not know what is going to happen or what I want to do in the future, but I am willing to figure it out and see what fits best for me.
