My name is Katelyn Eldred (2024, Libero/DS, 5'7", 3.7GPA), and I am a junior at Maclay School in Tallahassee. I’ve always enjoyed playing sports and played softball from an early age. In middle school, I also started playing basketball, but it wasn’t until the beginning of 7th grade when I was asked to join to a practice, that I found volleyball. I instantly fell in love with the game. That year, I played on the middle school team and began playing club volleyball. After two years of club volleyball, I decided to focus solely on volleyball during my time in high school.
When I joined the varsity volleyball team as a freshman, I knew that I would have to push myself every day to become a better volleyball player. I was joining a team of girls that had been playing together for many years on both school and club teams. There was also a libero on the team that had more experience than me. Throughout the season, I continued to push myself not only during practices and games, but also at home by working on solo drills. My determination, dedication and hard work paid off when my coach made me starting libero. This school year, as a sophomore, I continued playing on the varsity team as a DS and backup Libero. This club season, I am playing on the 16 Elite team as an OH 6 rotation player due to team needs and was selected as Captain by my teammates and coaches. In addition to my club season, I joined my school's girls weightlifting team, finishing third in my weight class at Districts. I also joined my school's beach volleyball team and am continuing spring school volleyball conditioning and weight training.
At college, I want to grow, not only as a volleyball player, but also as a student and a woman. At this time, I want to focus my undergraduate studies in an area that will provide me with the foundation needed to be admitted to either Veterinary or Medical school so I can continue pursing my dream of becoming either a Veterinarian or Psychiatrist. On the volleyball court, I will strive to be a flexible player, a supportive teammate, and a morale booster for the team. I believe in leading by example even when not placed in a formal leadership role. Throughout my time playing high school and club volleyball, I will continue to work harder each day to grow and improve.
