After high school graduation, my goal is to attend a small, Division III or NAIA, Catholic or Christian college where I can major in Theology or Ministry and continue playing volleyball.
My faith has always been top priority in my life and a foundation of my identity. This is why I want to attend a college that can give me a strong, faith-built education. I have chosen to major in one of these areas because I have been very inspired by my youth minister and several other role models in my faith. These people have helped make me who I am today and my goal is to do for others what those people have done for me, both in my faith journey and my life. I believe having a faith based education will help me achieve both my academic and athletic career goals in the best way possible.
In addition to my faith, sports, specifically volleyball, is a big part of who I am. Over the years, I have played several sports including softball, gymnastics, and basketball. However, none bring me the excitement that playing volleyball does. I have been playing volleyball since 5th grade and on a club team since 6th grade. The game of volleyball excites me for so many reasons but I believe the main reason I love the sport so much is because of the relationships I have made in the sport. I see myself as an extrovert and I love meeting new people. I have been with new girls and a new coach every year, but I am still friends with many of my teammates from years prior. I don't worry about new coaches, new teammates or new situations because all of these help me become a better volleyball player on the court and person off the court. There is always something to learn from the people and places you end up in.
Some of the most important things I have learned while playing volleyball are flexibility, trust and being open to change. I started as a MB and then got moved to playing OPP a year later. I really loved playing OPP but after 3 seasons, I was moved to S. At first, this was difficult but after learning the position and gaining more confidence, I found success and enjoyment in the position. This past year, my club coach had me play OPP, S and DS throughout the season. Learning to be flexible, open to change and to trust my coach, my teammates and myself has helped me become stronger on the court (both physically and mentally) and off the court as well. All of this has lead to me being someone my teammates and coaches can look to for leadership on and off the court.
Volleyball brings me so much joy and I am passionate about playing. I hope to continue my passion for the sport by playing for a Division III or NAIA, small, Catholic or Christian college while pursuing a faith based college education.
