Peilu Yu '25 Recruiting Profile

Hi Coaches, my name is Peilu Yu and I also go by Lucy. I'm from Yokohama International School in Japan and have been playing volleyball for 7 years. I would describe myself as a very athletic person. I do understand the difference in competitive levels in international schools compared to the teams in the States. However, with my passion for volleyball and knowing that I'm a person who needs to be playing sports competitively, I'm very convinced that I'm keen to play volleyball in my college years. Since 7th grade, instead of playing a team that is outside of school, I go to a club (Tokyo Volleyball Academy) to practice that targets the skills I want to improve on, twice a week despite it being off-season. This was a club where I took the initiative and convinced my parents to support my decision. I'm the type of person who hardly takes initiative on things but when I do, this shows how much I love and how eager to play volleyball. Because I have been practicing in the club, this made me realize that I need to take leadership roles for my teams during the practice and game. During the game and practice, I would give tips that I have learned to my teammates, devise drills for the practice, and negotiate with the coaches on how to enhance our play. What I have learned about taking the lead, especially as a setter, it is important to understand my teammates. It is crucial to realize that instead of making myself look like I'm the best in the team and making my teammates less confident, it is better to know what we need to work on as a team, and what my teammates need from me and support everyone to boost their confidence. After realizing this, it made me more motivated to be a stronger volleyball player to lead my team. On top of this, I'm also a very compliable person and would adapt to any changes. This does not only apply to volleyball but also to basketball and soccer or all other sports that I have played. Thank you for reading.
