Personal Statement
At the edge of the vast, empty convention center, our court roared—four rows of parents and fans cheering, players fighting for every point in spite of twelve hours of physical exhaustion from the day’s previous matches. Going back and forth with our rivals the entire time, we eventually pulled through to win 15-13 in the third set. My team immediately dogpiled on top of each other with excitement, laughter, and tears. I was proud of both our united effort under our coaches, and my own role in the victory, convinced that volleyball would be a part of my future. My desire to keep growing—as a competitor, athlete, and person—was emboldened.
That whole season was an awakening for me. I became a leader on my team, discovering and developing my ability to bring people together. It was my job as the setter to run the offense and facilitate teamwork, but connecting with my teammates more personally proved equally vital.
I will thrive in a program that encourages each member of the team to excel both as an athlete and as a student. I am looking to play for a team that maintains competitive standing through a supportive culture. My leadership, work ethic, and character will enhance such an environment and contribute to future success.
