Josie Barrand Hig...Personal Statement
My name is Josie Barrand, and I am a libero/DS for the class of 2020. I have been playing volleyball for almost seven years now, and I have grown to love the sport even more as the years go by. I have a strong, yet calming presence on the court, and I am determined to become the best player that I can be. As a libero, I have learned to understand the importance of my position, and I am proud to wear the jersey that sets me apart.
I am as competitive in the classroom as I am in the gym. I am a hardworking student at Kickapoo High School with a 4.9 GPA. While volleyball is my passion, I would absolutely love to get a job in the medical field to give back to my community. I am undecided on a major at this time, but I know that I am interested in nursing, genetics, and pharmaceutical practices.
My ultimate goal is to play collegiate level volleyball while earning my college degree. I know that this takes lots of hard work that I am willing to put in to reach my goal.

- Trained under the direction of former Olympian Lori Endicott-Vandersnick. One of the youngest players allowed into the program. Won the final day skill challenge 3 of 4 years, placed 2nd in other year. Selected to represent CODP at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Banquet with Coach Endicott-Vandersnick in my final year 2015.

- Qualified by tryout for the USAVB program in Colorado Springs. Spent 4 days training with the program. Scored on a 1 to 5 scale. 5 = Excellent, 4 = Very good, 3 = Good. In serving scored overall a 4+. In setting scored overall a 4+. In Libero Scoring Received 5- Defensive Effort, 4+ Reading & Anticipation, 4+ Def. Court Awareness, 4+ Out of System Setting, 3+ Serve Receive & Back Row Leadership and Comm. Libero Position Comments: " Loved your game! Focus on your range on defense and improving hands as the trend is for Liberos. Keep becoming more of a backrow captain. Talk, work on staying low and having more of a back row presence". Cognitive Comments: "A great player to coach - would love an entire team of you. Continue to improve your volleyball IQ by playing and watching as much volleyball as possible. Would like to see more talk and display confidence vocally. Be confident in skills and commanding the ball".

- Qualified by tryout for the USAVB program in Grand Rapids, MI. Spent 4 days training with college coaches and other girls same age from all over the country. 164 girls qualified about 20 liberos are chosen. Was ranked top 4 liberos in program. Her program team placed 2nd place out of 18 teams on final day tournament. Received excellent ratings and comments!
