I never realized as a child why school was extremely difficult for me. I watched as all of my friends basically breezed by and enjoyed it. At 10 years old, I was diagnosed with Dyslexia. I have since learned to embrace my difficulties. I do not have a “disability,” I have been given a tremendous ability. I have been given the “ability” to work hard, persevere, realize that every achievement is thoroughly earned and rely on the help of others. This gift has transferred itself into my athletic accomplishments as well. In my efforts, I have grown to realize that I alone cannot achieve greatness; it takes a team effort to accomplish my goals.
As a three year member of GEVA High Performance team, Four year member of Aviator Sports National Team, Freshman starter for Fontbonne Hall Academy Varsity Volleyball Team, and player on Rockaway Beach Volleyball Team, I have committed myself to professional growth, leadership and team work. As captain of multiple teams, I have learned how to be a leader, a listener and how to pick people up when they are down. The game is not about me; it is truly a team effort.
I know that I possess the talent, work ethic and leadership skills needed to be an outstanding student – athlete and make a great impact on a college team. I have learned to overcome and succeed through tremendous effort. When things get hard, I work harder. I hope to bring these qualities to a college team and become an integral part of the program.
