Personal Statement
I started playing volleyball in 5th grade, this was the first year volleyball was in the recreation league. Once I reached 6th grade, I learned that I was going to have to sacrifice time with my friends to be at volleyball practices and that was the right decision for me. In middle school I had a coach that made a large impact on my life. She shared this quote with our team, “hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard” - Kevin Durant. I continue to use this quote daily on and off the court. Because of her I’ve learned its going to take hard work to accomplish the goals I have set for myself. In 8th grade, my team mates and I were determined to become conference champions after coming up short the year before.
As captain I led my team to a conference championship during my 8th grade year. Going into high school, I was ready for anything that came my way both on and off the court. This year I've taken classes and joined clubs that help me toward my desired major in college. I’ve learned if I really want something it’s not going to be handed to me, I have to work for it. When I make a mistake I'm not going to get down or dwell on my mistake, I'm going to work to make up for it on the next play. When someone’s down on the court, I tell her to shake it off and that she has the next one, or I crack a joke to make her smile. With my personality and determination I know I can stand out in the classroom and on the court.
