Personal Statement
My name is Riley Broughton and I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I began playing volleyball at the age of eight and absolutely fell in love with the game. Ever since then it has been my dream to play at the collegiate level.
I attend Oak Hills High School and currently have a 4.0 GPA. I am in the Key Club, Student Government, and Young Life. As a freshman, I was a starter on the J.V. team. I also played Varsity and I was the only underclassman on the team. As a sophomore, I was the starting setter on Varsity and earned 2nd team conference honors. I was the starting setter again as a junior and I was named to the "Cincinnati Enquirer Players to Watch List". I run a 5/1. I earned 1st team All Conference and 3rd team All District Honors. I was selected as team MVP for the year. I played club and was the captain of my team for five years at CYVBC Surge. In those five years my team reached the finals of every tournament we played in except one. My team also won the the Ohio Valley Region title in 2017. In 2018 we moved up to the American division and we finished 3rd overall in the region. In 2020 and 2021, I played at the National Level for NKJV (Northern Kentucky Junior Volleyball). I was captain both years.
I am a hard worker both in the classroom, as evidenced by my caseload of AP and honors classes, and on the court. I regularly attend training sessions with a coach from a nearby club. I work out with a personal trainer 2x per week. My physical strength is one of my greatest attributes. I am able to deadlift 305# and can squat 305#. I utilize this strength and endurance to be a dynamic setter and play strong defense. I hope to find a college program where I can work hard on and off the court to improve my skills and be a dedicated student. I plan to become an optometrist.
