Personal Statement
My name is Anika Huff, I am a senior at Wren High School in South Carolina and I have been playing volleyball since 7th grade. I started playing volleyball because my mom played when she was in high school and I fell in love with the sport. Since I began playing I have had to balance games, practices, academics, and having a social life. Even with how busy my schedule is I am still an AP student and continue to work even harder in my courses than I do on the court.
During my 2020 club season, I tore my ACL and meniscus. It was only the third tournament and I blew out my knee. Although I was devastated, I knew that I had to make my way back to normal and I only had 6 months to do it before my senior season started. During quarantine, I went through countless hours of physical therapy and ended up being so far ahead of schedule that I am now playing as a team captain and starting outside hitter. This experience has made me a smarter and better player because I am now more aware of the court and my surroundings and I play the game with more strategy than brute force.
