Last year, I transferred schools from a small, public school, to a good-sized private boarding school across the state from all that I knew; my family, my friends, and my community. The thought of leaving the people I loved was terrifying, and it truly was a new and scary experience that I don't think anyone can fully prepare for. Although, when I had made the final decision to transfer to St. Johnsbury Academy, even though I was dreading leaving my home and all I knew, I had a feeling that it was the right step I needed to take to improve my future. The transition was rough, I began living with a new family of 40 other girls and 6 adults I had never met in my life, I had a new level of academic rigor added to my plate, and I was elected captain of a team I was completely new to. Being elected captain of my varsity team was unexpected as I am a junior, but I was not afraid to rise up to the challenge and be the leader I have always been and will continue to be. At this point in the year, I am glad that I pushed myself out of the sheltered world I knew and took a chance for the sake of my future because I now am doing better than ever. I have found my place, my people, and my team, and will continue to do all in my power to push both myself and those around me to constantly be improving.
