Because my charter school doesn't offer sports programs, my determination to compete started even before I touched the wrestling mat. I had to find out how to join a high school wrestling program at another school and then figure out how to get myself to and from practices despite conflicting school schedules. I ended up joining the Douglas County High School team and working through my own school to be excused and get credit for practice. This has been important because it's made me more organized and dedicated, having to manage a double schedule and the expectations of coaches, counselors and teachers at two different schools. I've also worked a job outside of school since my sophomore year.
On the mat, I've had to overcome a lack of experience, coming into my first season late as a sophomore. I earned the most improved award that season, and have continued striving toward improvement, training at an MMA gym in the off season this year to increase flexibility and conditioning. I'm driven to perform my very best in my senior year and would like to continue working through college.
