Although I do not like for the dynamics of my family to define me, I believe it has played a paramount role in who I am. I have four parents and four, much younger siblings, who are my biggest fans. My parents enrolled me in the youth wrestling program when I was seven years old, and I have loved every moment of my experience with this sport since.
The collegiate goals and aspirations I have set for myself far exceed my wrestling career. I aspire to make a difference and be a role model in whatever community I am placed in by being the best I can be. Hard work must not only happen on the wrestling mat but also in the classroom to achieve my goals for life.
It is hard at a young age to decide what differentiates me from others my age. I believe I am hardworking, trustworthy, passionate, reliable, and willing to tackle whatever challenge is put in front of me. Wrestling has taught me many of these attributes.
During my sophomore season, I was faced with rigorous adversity when my entire team intermittently quit, and I was the last one left on the team. After traveling to other schools to maintain a practice schedule, I fought to the very end of the season, where I qualified for the state tournament and was one match off from placing. In my heart, I felt I needed to keep the Miami Wardog program alive for not only my unrelenting love of the sport but also for my community, who supported me to the very end. At the end of the season, I requested to sit down with our athletic director and Superintendent to talk about the future of the Miami Wardog wrestling program. At their request, I decided to stay in Miami to help rebuild the program. That single commitment ultimately taught me profound leadership skills that I will use for life. Additionally, It taught me to push through any obstacle that I’m faced with.
Although I have no doubt I will reach all of my academic goals even if I am unable to wrestle collegiately, it has always been my dream to wrestle at the college level. Therefore I will strive to reach this goal no matter what it takes.
