Types of women’s soccer events

The three types of recruiting events for women’s soccer are: camps, combines and tournaments. Each play a key role in your recruiting process. Visit the pages linked below to learn the benefits for each type of soccer event.

  • Soccer camps allow you to work on your game year-round and develop the skills you need to impress college coaches. Learn more about girls soccer camps.
  • Soccer combines let college coaches evaluate a recruit’s potential through a series of physical and technical tests. Learn more about girls soccer combines.
  • Soccer tournaments allow you to show college coaches what you can do with your soccer skills during a game. Learn more about girls soccer tournaments.

How to choose which women’s soccer events to attend

Your goals, age, skill level, playing experience all factor into which soccer events to choose. At soccer exposure events, you’ll be competing against some of the best girls soccer players in the nation. Your soccer skills will need to be good enough to stand out. This is less important in camps where you’ll be more focused on development.

Insider tip: The cost of attending multiple women’s soccer events can add up. Before camp season begins, consider building a budget to help choose the number of camps, combines, showcases and tournaments you can (or should!) realistically attend. Talk with your NCSA Recruiting Coach to learn more about the soccer recruiting process.

When to attend each soccer recruiting event

View our recommendations below for when to attend girls soccer camps, combines or tournaments:

Women's soccer camp timeline.

8th – 9th grade:

Focus: Soccer Skills Development

Events to attend: Soccer Camps and Clinics

Attend soccer camps and clinics that focus on skills training. Make your high school team and get quality minutes at the varsity level. Then, you can start thinking about coach exposure. If you’re a specialist player, like a goalkeeper or striker, attend camps that specialize in your position. Start looking for a club team to help prepare you for exposure events.

10th – 11th grade:

Focus: Soccer Skills Development and Exposure

Events to attend: Soccer ID Camps, Combines, Tournaments and Showcases

College coaches start evaluating you as a potential recruit. Attending soccer ID camps with multiple schools in attendance or showcases and tournaments with your club team will help you to get on “players to watch” lists. Consider going to a soccer combine to add verified stats and measurements to your recruiting profile.

12th grade:

Focus: College Offers

Events to attend: Soccer ID Camps, Tournaments and Showcases

Focus on attending exposure-style events like ID camps or tournaments and showcases with your club team to get in front of college coaches. This will be your last chance to show coaches what you can do on the field before your final soccer season. Go to soccer ID camps at the schools you are most interested in to get a better feel for the program, coaching staff and campus.
