Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Andrew Lapp. (17 years old, Class of 2021)
Since I was just a tyke I have loved sports, especially the game of baseball. (Go Cardinals!!) My 5 brothers and I, along with my dad would use throw pillows as bases and play energetic games of baseball in our living room. The best part for me was sliding into base, even though the bases were only a few feet apart (I still enjoy sliding into base!!) Our mother patiently endured broken picture frames and damaged lamp shades as our games became very competitive!! The baseball cleats that my uncle bought for me when I was 3 were my prized possession, I wore them all day, inside and outside of the house!
Ever since I can remember I have dreamed of playing in the Major Leagues ( I know, quite lofty dreams!) and have begged my dad to "Hit me some." So day after day, after his work hours, he would hit balls as I would take on the challenge of catching anything that came my way. My brothers and I literally spent hours playing baseball in the miniature diamonds that our parents created for us!!
You can probably tell by the previous paragraphs that my parents and siblings have been a huge influence on me. I was born on February 10, 2002. I'm from a family of 8 kids, 5 of whom are adopted. In 2015 we moved from a farm in PA to Canon City, CO to work with New Horizons Ministries, a ministry who cares for babies of Incarcerated Mothers. I work part time in the Thrift Store that supports the work the of NHM.
I've been home-schooled all 11 years and joined the baseball team at Canon City High School in Canon City my Freshman year. I love the opportunities on the team, and have had great coaches who helped me excel in this sport. My parents have been my biggest supporters and have not only invested in me, but in the team. I was privileged to start on the Varsity Team my Freshman year and have played with them ever since. I've played 2nd and 3rd base consistently, two of my favorite positions!! Since playing on Canon City's High School baseball team, I've played every position on the field, except 1st base and catcher.
Like I mentioned, I have big dreams of playing at a higher level and would also like to study Sports Management in College. I love the challenge of learning and feel like I am very teachable, anything so that I can succeed and become better at the game of baseball. I'm also a leader by nature and have a good work ethic! I try to rally my team on and off the field. If you would ask my coaches and teammates, they would admit that I'm pretty loud/energetic, but encouraging, when we play.
I will end this personal statement by saying the my Faith has influenced me in a big way. I'm a Christian and my primary goal is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and to influence my part of the world in a good way. Because of the influence of my parents and my Faith, I see every person as valuable. So... even though I love the game of baseball and want to win trophies and awards, my biggest goal is to influence people, especially my teammates, in a positive way. I desire to give everyone I meet a ray of hope.
In a nutshell... My dream is to play the wonderful game of baseball while having a platform to care for people and ultimately help them to succeed and know that they are on this earth for a purpose!!
Thank you for considering me as a student and baseball player on your team. Respectfully, Andrew Lapp
