Personal Statement

My name is Christopher Gehrig Salmon, I am a left-handed hitting , athletic build catcher and outfielder, however I can also play third and second base. I have been playing baseball since I was 4 years old and am excited to pursue my dream of playing and eventually coaching college baseball. I have always been fully committed to both my academics and to my sport which has allowed me to be successful in both.

I pride myself on being able to play any role or position my team needs to succeed. I have been raised with the values of hard work, respect for coaches, players and umpires and giving 100% in all you do.  I carry myself with integrity both on and off the field, play every game with heart, and leave the field after each game with no regrets, just like the player I am named after.  I am committed to working hard to get bigger, stronger and faster over my high school and college career, while continuing to maintain a high academic profile.

  • Christopher Salmon is a 2024 C/OF with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Ewing, NJ who attends Ewing. Recorded a 5.53 second forty-yard dash time. Medium, slender frame with a high waist, square shoulders and plenty of room to add strength. Primary catcher that receives from a wide, slightly side-saddled stance with soft hands and segmented movements into the throwing process. Works uphill into an elongated mid-line transfer process, while working into a long arm action to throw. Recorded accurate throws up to 69 mph from behind the plate during drills. Secondary outfielder with a developing defensive skill set, fields slightly off to the side and carries some momentum into release by using a shuffle, shuffle action into release. Recorded online, accurate throws with carry up to 75 mph during drills. Will continue to improve defensively with minor refinements mechanically and additional strength. Left-handed hitter that hits from a narrow, upright stance with a low hand set and hanging leg lift trigger. Incorporates a big barrel tip and weight shift onto his back leg to get the swing going, while showing some whip to his barrel and gap-to-gap impact when on-time. Uses whole field effectively with a compact line drive stroke and exhibits good bat-to-ball skills. Developing, young prospect with plenty of upside defensively as he continues to physically mature and some offensive prowess. Will continue to improve with additional strength and proper adjustments mechanically. Excellent Student. Game notes - Christopher Salmon (2024 C, Ewing, NJ) roped a line drive with carry to CF during his AB, showcasing an impressive lefty on lefty swing. Salmon stayed through the baseball and displayed solid post contact extension to drive the ball with backspin. Out of a 5’11” 160 lb frame, Salmon has plenty of time to fill out the build and only add to the power potential present.

  • Baseball Factory Evaluation
  • 12/12/21 to 12/12/21
  • College Coach evaluation - Christopher is a young catcher who will graduate in 2024. Behind the plate, Christopher shows active footwork, a presentable glove, and quiet eyes. He sits in confidently, blocks and receives well, and throws with a consistent arm with carry and accuracy to 2nd base. Pop times were as low as 2.2 seconds to second base. If Christopher can continue to add arm strength and quicken his release by gaining more ground, defensive abilities will get even better. At the plate, Christopher has a closed stance, a square stride, and good balance. He has good bat whip, fast bat speed, and he makes square/level contact through the baseball. Continuing to use more lower body, and not spinning off the ball will help solid offensive numbers continue to get better.

Tournament Stats - 1-R, 6-H, 1-2B, 1-3B, 2-RBI Northeast, Mid-Atlantic Scout Recap - "Hitting an outlandish .857 on the weekend, Christopher Salmon (2024, Ewing, N.J.) was close to unstoppable at the plate. Collecting six knocks in his seven trips to the plate, the sophomore highlighted his weekend by going 4-for-4 on Sunday with two singles, a double, and a triple as he drove in two runs. A top-of-the-order bat for the West Jersey Wildcats, Salmon displayed hitterish tendencies in the box with present high bat-to-ball skills, having a knack for finding the barrel. A quick, compact stroke, Salmon showed his ability to use impact the ball throughout the entire field with a mature approach, remaining within himself and not trying to do too much with the bat."
