Growing up in Jamaica you are surrounded by world class track and field athletes and soccer players. It had never crossed my mind that I could be a part of a successful team of rowers. When I first discovered crew as a new sophomore boarder at Pomfret School in Connecticut, I was fascinated by the sleek boats and the grace and speed at which they glided through the water. When Coach Gregory Rossolimo scouted me in the spring of that Sophomore year, I rose quickly through the ranks from the top of the Junior Varsity team to the Varsity team's first boat this past season. The highlight of last season was making it to the Petite Finals of both the Founders Day Regatta and New England Championships.
My goal for my senior year is to lead my team to the finals of both of these Championships. Later as collegiate athlete, I want to be able to treat my academics and athletics with equal importance and be a part of a close knit team where the camaraderie builds a brotherhood of successful student athletes. I hope to work with team mates that are driven to compete fiercely-- teammates that are serious about improving and winning as a team.
What first distinguished me from other recruits--and continues to distinguish me--is my tall and slender build. At my growing 6ft 5.5'', 155 pound frame and wing span of 80 inches, I'm lighter and have greater reach than many crew athletes. As I begin to strength train intensely, my power grows exponentially, while making me a better rower and building my self-esteem and character. I'm committed to crew to develop myself personally and academically and I strongly believe that I will be a great asset to any collegiate team.
