Personal Statement
Softball has been a part of my life since I was five years old, but I really started to invest in the sport about the age of 12. I tried out for a local travel ball team and was cut from the initial roster, but several months later I was called back and made the team. That season I put maximum effort into practicing with the team. However, the games then started and I only played a few innings throughout the entire travel ball season. I continued to put my energy into softball and when tryouts came around at the end of that year, I tried out for a new team. With this team, I had the opportunity to play for a middle school team about an hour away since my school only had a summer recreational program leading up to high school. In this program I realized my potential and significantly improved. From this experience I learned commitment, dedication and gained new friends. I also developed an understanding of time management by trying to balance my school work with the long drives to practices and games. Along with these skills, softball has taught me how to be a leader and a supportive teammate. I can use many of these attributes in my future to be the best teacher and person I can be.
I am grateful that I was able to be a part of the amazing programs that helped to shape me into the person I am. They have taught me how to balance work, school and athletics. As a student athlete, I know that being a student and keeping my grades up is just as important as working hard on the field. I am looking for a school that not only is the right fit for me athletically, but academically as well. I know that I have the dedication, heart and leadership to be a collegiate softball player.
