Hi, my name is Genevieve Dal Ponte. I've been swimming since I was 5 years old when the only thing that stood between me and the big water slide at the waterpark was a 15 yard swim without stopping or touching the bottom of the pool. I looked at my mom with determination in my eyes and convinced her I could do it. I jumped in the pool, swam the 15 yards, got myself a wristband, and never looked back. That was the day I knew I loved challenging myself in the pool.
I joined a small swim team that summer and loved going to practices and meets. Over the years, my coaches helped me develop my technique and improve my times. I started to strive for IL Swimming Regional and State times when I was 8. I quickly made regional times and started to qualify for Age Group State when I was 9. I have continued to push myself to attain IL State times as I've aged up to the Senior State qualifying times.
In 2021 I started high school and I wanted to continue swimming. I made varsity my freshman year and instantly feel in love with the high school environment and the closeness of my team. While being on the LWC swim team, I learned many skills. One of the skills I learned is time management, I had to balance schoolwork with morning and afternoon practices most days. I also learned how to be supportive of my teammates, and at every meet I cheer for them and am happy for them when they accomplish a goal of theirs. This helped me a grow an even stronger love for swimming.
I have learned how to self motivate and be committed. All of these skills I have learned have become a part of my every day life. These skills have helped shape me into the person I am in and out of the water. I look forward to the opportunities of swimming in college and would love to strengthen my connection with swimming.
I am hardworking in swim and school and in school I have 3.774 GPA on a 4.0 scale. I look forward to continuing my hard work and pursuing my major of secondary education in mathematics. Along with secondary education I hope to pursue my dreams of becoming a high school swim coach and help swimmers with their technique and to become stronger just as my coaches have done for me. I look forward to studying my major and continuing swimming in college.
