I first discovered my love for running when I was three. I was participating in a 2k race around a pond in my tiara and sticker earrings. When I crossed the finish line I looked up happily at my mom holding my participation cookie and declared “I am a runner.” Fast forward eight years, to my sixth grade year. I decided to run for the middle school Durango trail running team and while I was never the best it was my first time participating in a community of runners. The unity and support from the team further deepened my identification as a runner.
I run because I can push myself to the limit; every season I have cut off time on my events. I love the adventure - running has taken me to the top of the Rocky Mountains and to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I love the new friendships I built. Some of the best people I know just happen to be runners..
Running has taught me: to be confident in myself, to become a leader, and how to be positive in the face of adversity. One of my core values is growth and hard work, which is why I run year-round participating in post and preseason cross country and track meets. Every workout and race I push myself to be the best athlete I can possibly be.
I am considered a team leader on my Track and Cross Country team. I strive to help create a team that is supportive, hard working , and excels in the Southwest region of Colorado. A strong value of mine is inclusion. As a team leader I organize team runs and workouts, welcome the new members of the team and ensure that all teammates feel heard and supported.
I am passionate about my academics. I work hard in the classroom, taking multiple challenge-up classes and courses that align with my passion and career aspirations. In the classroom, I am considered a leader who asks challenging questions and tutors my classmates when they are in need of academic support. I look forward to attending a college that will continue to push me as a leader in the classroom and challenge me to continue to achieve academic excellence. I believe that I will be a positive contributing team member in the classroom and on the track and look forward to continuing my athletic and academic career.
