Personal Statement

My education is very important to me as well as athletics. I challenge myself in academics instead of taking classes that I know I won't have to try hard in. I am also in a performance/sports psychology class that teaches me the mental side of performance, something that is very important for success. I am a multi-sport athlete, I play lacrosse and received an honorable mention award for the Western Slope as a sophomore even though my team wasn’t very successful. This was after I had to sit out 5 months of volleyball due to an ankle break. From that, I decided I wanted to be a collegiate volleyball player because of the passion I have for the game and what I learned not being able to play for five months. I have been on teams that are successful and some that were not. It has helped me build my character and showed me the value of working hard. I have learned that being a better teammate is more important to success than playing for myself. My goal as an athlete is to learn as much about the sport as I can and have experiences that will help me in many aspects of life. I was inspired by the varsity team at my current school when I was in 8th grade. They dominated every team they played and went to state. After seeing how much hard work could pay off from watching their season, it became my goal to be on varsity and to go on further after high school. During my junior year season, we beat the NO 2 seed in regionals to go to state, but lost to a lower seed. It taught me that the process is more important than the end result and that success is more than the score. I will contribute to any team in any way I can. I am always open to learning more about how I can improve and how I can help my teammates improve. I am very competitive and willing to do as much extra work as I have to in order to do well. I would be grateful for the opportunity to continue my volleyball career and knowledge of the game anywhere at any level.
