Hello!
I'm Amanda. I'm a 6 foot tall, 160 pound middle hitter/blocker from Shawnee High School in New Jersey graduating in 2015. I play both the middle and outside positions and really pride myself on being able and willing to play hard, physical defense and doing the little things that don't always show up on the stats sheet. By far, my favorite thing is BLOCKING! Although I love to block, I can hit middle as well as outside and have good back row skills for a front row player. I'm very quick for my size with a good vertical and can cover corner to corner very well. My goal is to always give my best effort, be a supportive teammate, and do whatever is needed to make our team a success, in games and in practice. I've started JV since my freshman year and was the backup Varsity middle until taking over the starting spot at the start of my Junior season. Some of my individual accomplishments this season were being named All Olympic Conference 2nd Team, LDTV Player of the Game, LDTV Play of the Game, Cherokee Spiketacular All Tournament Team, while leading my high school team in total blocks, average blocks per match, 2nd in kills and 3rd in aces. The Individual stat that I'm most proud of is finishing 11th in the state of NJ by The Star-Ledger and NJ.com for Average Blocks per match at 2.9 blocks/match. The number 1 blocker in the state finished with 4 blocks/match last season...I am working hard this off season to end up in that top spot next year! This season I am proud to be playing club volleyball for the very competitive CHVBC 17 Black team. I am a varsity basketball player for Shawnee High School as well. Over the past three varsity seasons we have been a leader in South Jersey winning back to back to back conference championships and a south jersey sectional state championship in 2014 . We are looking forward to closing the deal this season by winning a state championship. I have played AAU basketball for many years, the last 3 for the highly regarded Philadelphia Belles program..
Looking ahead to college, the possibilities seem endless and exciting. I'm fairly well-traveled and am open to attending school anywhere where I can grow, contribute and succeed, both on and off the court. Currently my interests are varied, from science/biology to social services to business, so schools with a broad curriculum or extended graduate programs are interesting, as well as schools with opportunities to study abroad.
I hope to attend a college that is supportive of the student as a whole, not just the athlete, but fulfilling my dream to play in college is a big part of my selection process. I work hard to be a great teammate - to be patient, caring, supportive, driven and direct, helping my team to grow and succeed together. I'd like to get the same feeling attending college, where people are invested in each other's success, like a great team. Thank you for your consideration.
