What the Coaches are Saying...
Aug 28, 2023

“Head Coach, Davon Ortega was hired in July of 2017 with the incoming task of making the Rider University Softball program a competitor once again! She and her staff collectively bring 40 years of experience as collegiate softball coaches possessing a record of significant accomplishment and success in building a championship culture as we succeeded in doing so at or former DII University. Approaching year five in our rebuilding process we have made some great strides in the culture change of the program by recruiting the positive mindset players to Rider Softball! In the 2021 Season we did make the conference playoffs and were able to place two players on the all-conference 1st team, 1 player on the conference all-rookie team, and 1 player on the 1st team all-region team, all goals that have not been accomplished since 2006. Not only have we made great strides in the softball realm, but we have also been highly successful in raising our team academic achievements. Our team goal has always been to accomplish a 3.4 Team GPA and fall of 2020 we had a 3.6 Team GPA placing us with the some of the top teams in NCAA athletics! Rider University Softball is highly committed to achieving the goal of competing at the regional and national level of NCAA DI softball and academics, and to accomplish this we will continue to recruit the best talent to Rider University. If you take the time to view our current roster you will see that we are highly active in the recruiting process, recruiting players from all areas of the country that we believe will only help us further accomplish our goals! Rider University is located in Lawrenceville New Jersey, about five miles from Princeton in a beautiful rural setting. We are 45 minutes from Philadelphia and an hour from New York City. We are a private university with about 4100 undergraduate students which allows us a 12-1 student to professor ratio. We have very excellent high academic programs with 71 undergraduate and 28 graduate degree programs in business administration, education, liberal arts, sciences, music, fine and performing arts, counseling, human services, and leadership: and 27 undergraduate and graduate certifications.
