~~I have played volleyball since I was ten and am passionate about the game. The longer I play and the more I improve, I learn what I am capable of. My skills and positive attitude contribute to my teams’ successes. Team work and support is how my club team qualified for Nationals in 12U, 13U, 14U and 15U.
I have a strong jump serve and court smarts as a setter. I am very “coachable” because I listen and then make the right adjustments. My coaches tell me they can count on me to fill in at any position. I feel this is why I was moved up to play varsity my freshman year. My sophomore and junior year the coach was able to use me as a right side hitter when needed. When at state in the quarterfinals I helped the team to a win with 13 kills.
I strive to be a team player and leader by encouraging my teammates and staying positive to keep everyone motivated. I also lead by example by reinforcing the importance of training on and off the court. I spend a lot of time in the gym working on conditioning and strengthening. I danced as a young child and now dance with my school troupe. The dance skills reinforce my volleyball skills.
Volleyball helps improve my leadership skills. I volunteer with middle school coaches and am a paid assistant at club volleyball camps. I also volunteer at the Oklahoma Food Bank; with my school Big Sis Little Sis program; serve as an alter server at my church, and keep score and work concession stands at my old school.
My mother inspires me. She played in high school and attended college on a scholarship. Now, she is a volunteer coach at my old middle school. My younger sister also plays volleyball. The sport brings my family together and makes us closer. It is a big part of our lives.
I work to maintain a high GPA so I can attend a good college and excel academically and athletically. My volleyball experiences have led to my goal of playing at the collegiate level. As I become a better volleyball player, I become a better person.
