I was a three-year letter winner in high school for baseball, basketball and football. I decided to take my talents to Ferris State University to play baseball. This was a truly tremendous time in my life and really shaped the way I am today, from the coaches I played for to the brothers I went to war with over the four years. I never really thought about coaching until I was in college and the first coaching degree in the nation was being offered to our class. It was a coaching minor program, and it dealt with organization, proper health programs, kinesiology and psychology. I was honored to be part of the second class of individuals to receive this degree.
Once I returned home from school, I immediately started coaching kids at the high school and middle school levels. This was a great way to give back to children the things I learned and to help them achieve their personal greatness. My teams have always been successful, winning district, regional and state championships. I currently have players that I have coached playing in the NFL and MLB, which is an honor.
When my kids were getting old enough to play sports, I started coaching their teams and created feeder programs for the high school. The football program and baseball program didn’t have such programs in the community. I started the youth football program and youth baseball program to play at competitive levels from 8 years old to 16 years old. Since the start of my programs, the high school has won state titles in each sport with players who have come through the programs.
